From the perspective of responsible use of publication metrics, one of the key stages is choosing a source that provide publication data that is relevant to the subject and purpose of the analysis. Often, completely different tools are available for use when the subject of analysis is publication channels instead of universities or individual researchers, for example. This chapter aims to cover the key perspectives of using publication metrics and to highlight the key tools that are used in different situations. It should also be considered that some of the sources and tools presented are subject to a charge, but there are also often free options available.
