EXAM – Optional sections

• With this functionality, the examiner can create general and personal exams with optional content/works and the student can choose which optional topics (e.g. books) he/she wants to take when booking the exam.
• The student selects the optional content to be examined when booking the exam and is shown the questions in the sections during the exam. Students can change their choices before the exam, by cancelling the time reservation and booking a new time and making new choices.
• This functionality has been implemented by adding the functionality "optional section" to the Exam Section property. When you tick this box, the section is shown to the student as an optional section in the exam booking, which he/she can choose to include in the exam or not. There can be one or more optional sections in the exam.
• The same exam can contain both optional and compulsory topics. If no sections are marked as optional, the exam is a normal basic exam, with all sections being the same for everyone.
• The optional nature of the topics can be used in both the general and the individual exam. This is not used in the maturity examination.

Writing an exam:

• Create an exam and add the settings on the Basic Information page. Enter the instructions for selecting optional sections when booking an exam in the "Instructions to student displayed during exam booking" section.
• In the "Questions" section, select the sections to be included in the exam and the questions to be asked under them.

• If the section is optional, tick the box 'Optional section'. In this case, the section will be shown to the student as optional when booking the exam, and he/she can choose or not to choose it.
• Add questions to the exam as usual and enable the question draw if you use this functionality.
• Publish the exam as usual

In the student's booking view, the option "I want to take this section" is displayed under the optional exam sections, where the student selects the sectuons that he/she will take the exam. If all sections are optional, the student must select at least one in order to reserve a time to take the exam. A green tick icon will appear on the right-hand side when at least one section is selected.
