EXAM question library is a pool of all exam questions you have created or whose owner you are.

In the question library, you can create new questions to be attached to exams created later. You can edit and delete questions or share questions with other teachers in the question library.

Create directly to an exam

You can also create questions directly to a new exam. The questions created for exams will automatically be added to your question library.

To access your question library, click Question library on the EXAM menu.

To create a new question, click the Create new question button. The question types available are

It is also possible to import questions from Moodle with the Import questions from Moodle button (for instructions, see Transfer questions from Moodle to EXAM)

Above the questions in the question library there are some search tools. A question can be searched for by using the course, exam, keywords, sections, and owner. However, keywords can only be used as search limiter if you have added one or more tags to the question. You can add keywords by first clicking the ID number of a question and then editing the question. A keyword is added at  Add a tag. You can also possible to search for a question by typing its ID number or part of the question text in the search field.

Each question has a unique ID number, shown underneath the question name/ question text in the question library list. There can be several questions with the same name in the system. The listing in the question library shows the latest modification of the question, its maximum grade, question type and eventual attachments and tags.

You can remove a question by clicking the garbage bin at the end of the row. Before the question is removed, the system requires confirmation. A question cannot be removed if it is attached to an active exam. A question attached to an expired exam can be removed because a copy of it is made in the submitted exam.

You can copy a question with the copy icon at the end of the row. The copied question will have the same name as the original with the word “Copy” in front of it. You can modify both the name and text of the copy.

To look closer at a question or to modify it, click its ID number.

Modifications have an effect on every exam

Modifications of a question take effect in all exams using the question.

Modifications made in the grading scale or instructions of questions that are attached to several exams do not take effect in earlier exams.
