OSTrails promotes open science and the implementation of the FAIR principles:

  1. developing processes and tools for planning, monitoring and evaluating research,
  2. taking into account national and thematic contexts,
  3. improving existing infrastructure, and
  4. connecting key elements.

OSTrails Goals:

  1. Developing DMPs from static descriptions to updating, interconnected resources
  2. Further development of DMPs as a viable alternative for research data management (RDM)
  3. Ensure that scientific data graphs (SKGs) are discoverable and interoperable
  4. Enrich SKGs to promote FAIR evaluations and verify FAIR implementation
  5. Promote a shift in focus from FAIR evaluations to research-based FAIR practices

OSTrails Finland's national pilot aims to:

  1. Collecting use cases to digitalize the research data management process to better serve researchers, research institutes and research funders
  2. Develop a single national machine-readable DMP template for national funders and local infrastructure (PIDs, CRIS, data repositories), taking into account EU DMP models (e.g. PID). ERC, Horizon and Science Europe) and RDA standard.
  3. The goal is a clear machine-ractionable DMP data model that is user-friendly, flexible and modular, meeting the needs of 60 institutions and aiming for high usage for researchers, universities and higher education institutions, research institutes, the Academy of Finland and other research funders.

The project is 3 years 02/2024 - 01/2027
