EUNIS Cloud Management Special interest Group

1.         BACKGROUND

Cloud usage and management was one of the topics at EUNIS 2019 conference. Following the talk in one of the parallel sessions, it was proposed to establish a EUNIS Special Interest Group on the topic of Cloud usage and management.

2.         EUNIS CLOUD MANAGEMENT SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

2.1.                     Mission and Scope

During the last years the usage of cloud services in HEI have increased and there is a high demand to structure and manage this usage, so that the researchers and teachers as well as the HEI benefits most from it.

The cloud management Special Interest Group will focus on the common challenges HEI meet by introducing and managing cloud usage. In detail, this includes the following key activities:

• Discuss and find solutions for common challenges, e.g. governance structures, data security, integrating cloud services into the on premise architecture, licensing etc.
• Develop best practices / Blue prints for these challenges
• Exchange knowledge in regular workshops
• establish and maintain presence on EUNIS webpages (contacts, meetings and agendas)

2.2.                     Planned activties

Main activities will take place in conjunction with annual EUNIS conferences in form of a pre-congress workshop. It will be decided upon the first meeting then how often regular meetings will be held as a video conference. Other meetings and small group activities will be scheduled when necessary.

2.3.                     Working principles

• Chairperson and secretary is selected among the active members to ensure structured approach.
• No limitation on member count in SIG meetings or workshops should exist, if not explicitly agreed on in official meeting.
• The annual EUNIS conference will act as the primary meeting time to provide main agenda and key activities for the upcoming meeting cycle.
