INVITED SPEAKER 2: ACCELERATING HIGHER EDUCATION’S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY
Susan Grajek, Vice President
- Dx = Digital Transformation
- Leaders need to understand that Dx is fuelled by technology, but it's much more than technology.
- Grand challenges identified mainly in the US in 2020 (5 interviewed from Europe):
- Three scenarios given in the study to choose from:
- The research report can be found here: https://library.educause.edu/resources/2020/6/driving-digital-transformation-in-higher-education

- Nick works with a consultancy that is a membership organisation for universities
- Rens is from Fontys University
- Comments for Susan and Betsy's presentation:
- Cultural change identified as the most difficult thing in the change strategy
- Leveling the playing field in that people, faculty members, staff.. all have been forced to use technology. Digital is becoming the normal, less scary and even boring.
- Q: I heard more people in the last months talking about workload, long time psychology deficits, and other effects... How is this reflected in our measures, values, and evaluation of DX? How can we maintain a non-digital perspective and be drivers of DX at the same time?
- A: At EDUCAUSE, we believe that the human values — equity, belong, inclusion, diversity, mental health — are key components of Dx. We include them in our self-assessment and in our Dx signals.
- Social justice a big theme in the surveys
- People have thought more about equality, social justice, etc during the pandemic and institutions will need to respond to this.
- Flexibility
- Need to understand what outcomes you're trying to achieve, and these to be driven by your values
