In the CompLeap project we are producing testable prototypes, which are linked to the framework architecture developed in WP2.

Four Phases of Development

  1. Mapping architecture – initial mapping of current service framework
  2. Mock up prototype – visual screenshots of the modules for testing a concept
  3. HTML prototype – more functionalities than a mock-up proto showcasing full framework
  4. Beta prototypes – final prototype proving certain functionalities of the planned framework

Content of Proof of Concept Prototypes

The proof of concept (PoC) prptptypes include three interlinked modules:

  • Module 1: Local study record service integration (past)
  • Module 2: Competence profile with current competencies (present)
  • Module 3: Suggestions for educational opportunities (future)

More information on the design and content of the thee modules can be found here: Content of Prototypes

Learner Centered Service Design

The learners needs have been at the center of the service design process. Learners and guidance counselors have been at the center of service planning and needs analysis from the very beginning. Learners are included in the testing and piloting of the prototypes.

The learner's pathway is main value stream in the CompLeap framework, and defines the steps the learner takes to increment hers or his competence.

Progression plan for the CompLeap prototype

The CompLeap project has been defining the requirements and prioritizing the content of the planned service prototypes. The CompLeap prototypes will be developed in two sessions. The primary phase being through February to May 2019.

The aim is that everything produced in the CompLeap prototypes could be utilized in the further development of Opintopolku after the project ends. The first module utilized would be the provision of a competence profile into Opintopolku.

Implemented by the 30th of May 2019

Competence Profile

  • The learner’s competencies are shown to the learner based on their KOSKI-data and data from eCurriculum
  • The learner can provide prior and future interests, which are shown as competencies

Recommended educational offer

  • based on competencies
  • based on interests

Additionally, the prototype developed by the 30th of May has to be able to be partially deployed in the Netherlands. Deployment does not mean production use in Finland or the Netherlands.

Further development by 30th of August

The user piloting of the prototypes begins in may. Improvemnets to usability and tweaks based on feedback received in piloting are implemented by the 30th of August. Additionally, the possibility for the learner to include their Europass as well as Open Badges will be implemented in this stage.

HTML-prototype

A HTML-prototype has been developed to exemplify the user flow. The prototype will be finalised by the end of January.

In preparation for the html prototypes, two separate Invision mock-up prototypes we developed in 2018 for user testing and validation:

Stakeholder Needs

Under WP2 EDUFI collected stakeholder needs relating to the existing service framework, out of which the following needs for new service prototypes or interlinkages between services were identified. These have been translated into requirements, narrowed down, and prioritised for the digital service developers to work on:

NEED 1: To help learner’s identifymap and visualise current competencies (competence mapping)

The prototype enables the user to create content relating to their competences and collect datapoints / materials for AI analytics.

The datamass will create visualised and verbalised content on the users competencesThe content can be added to the users own competence profile

NEED 2: To help users understand what competencies they need and wish to have

The prototype enables users to map and collect content for a personal competence profile, which also provides intelligent input on potential competence development opportunities.

The user can input their own interests and competencies and compare them to labour market needs with valuable feedback of further competence development needs.

The prototype includes links to various competence tests the results of which they can save to their own profile.

NEED 3: Creating own competence profile (technical)

The prototype enables users to sing into the service either with strong or weak authentication and create the basic profile

The profile information is updated through competence mapping.

NEED 4: Low threshold support and community

The prototype enables users to share and discuss content.

NEED 5: Linkages and movement between different digital services e.g. labour market platforms

The prototype includes an interface and approval management toolwhich provides content for the use of different education providers

Own data from different relevant services can be transfered and shown in personal competence profile

NEED 6: Providing the neccessary data and transitions for the comparing of education opportunities

The prototype provides information and data as input for compering educational opportunities

The supply of education opportunities can be visualised into a map where area specific competence needs are highlighted
