- 2016 käyttöönotettu VIRTA-julkaisutietopalvelu kokoaa yhteen julkaisujen tiedot kaikista suomalaisista yliopistoista, ammattikorkeakouluista, tutkimuslaitoksista ja yliopistollisista sairaaloista.
- Tietoja on kerätty korkeakouluilta opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriön (OKM) julkaisutiedonkeruussa vuodesta 2011 alkaen. Tutkimuslaitokset ja yliopistolliset sairaalat ovat liittyneet mukaan vaiheittain vuodesta 2014 alkaen.
- VIRTA tarjoaa sitä käyttäville organisaatioille yhteismitallista ja ajantasaista vertailutietoa niiden julkaisutoiminnasta. Palveluun koottavat julkaisutiedot ovat hyödynnettävissä erilaisissa järjestelmissä ja palveluissa.
- Julkaisutietojen poiminta VIRTA-julkaisutietopalvelusta on otettu käyttöön Suomen Akatemian hankeraportoinnissa huhtikuussa 2017 ja ja rahoitushaussa syyskuussa 2018.
- OKM vastaa VIRTA-julkaisutietopalvelun kustannuksista ja elinkaaren hallinnasta. CSC - Tieteen tietotekniikan keskus Oy:n (CSC) toteuttaa palvelun ja ylläpitää sitä.

VIRTA-julkaisutietojen käyttö Suomen Akatemiassa
Julkaisutietojen poiminta VIRTA-julkaisutietopalvelusta on otettu käyttöön Suomen Akatemian hankeraportoinnissa huhtikuussa 2017 ja ja rahoitushaussa syyskuussa 2018. Ennen tutkija syötti julkaisuja koskevat tiedot tutkimushankkeen tieteelliseen raporttiin julkaisu kerrallaan. Vuonna 2017 käyttöönotetulla uudistetulla raporttilomakkeella hyödynnetään VIRTA-julkaisutietopalvelussa olevia julkaisutietoja siten, että tutkija voi poimia ne haun perusteella automaattisesti hankkeensa tieteelliseen raporttiin.

Mikäli tutkijan julkaisua ei ole vielä VIRTA-julkaisutietopalvelussa, tutkija voi lisätä ne Akatemian hankeraportille syöttämällä tiedot sähköiselle lomakkeelle. Näitä koskevat tiedot voidaan toimittaa Akatemiasta edelleen VIRTA-julkaisutietopalveluun, josta tiedot ovat edelleen hyödynnettävissä esimerkiksi tutkimusorganisaatioissa.

| - The VIRTA publication information service, launched in 2016, complies annual publication information from all Finnish universities, universities of applied sciences, state research institutes and university hospital districts.
- Since 2011, the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland has collected publication information from higher education institutions. Research institutes and university hospitals have joined in stages since 2014.
- VIRTA provides its users with common and up-to-date comparative information on their publishing activities. The publication information collected in the service can be utilized in various systems and services.
- Extraction of publication information from VIRTA has been introduced in the Academy of Finland's project reporting in April 2017 and in the funding calls in September 2018.
- The Ministry of Education and Culture is responsible for VIRTA service's costs and lifecycle management. CSC – IT Center for Science and maintains the service.

- The information on the most important publications for the project (no more 10 publications for individual applications, no more than 20 for consortium project) filled in on the tab Most relevant publications.
- The information is retrieved from the VIRTA publication information service (Find publication). If you cannot find a publication in the VIRTA publication information service, you may also enter its details manually (Add publication.)
- The most relevant publications are printed on the application PDF file according to author and year.
- You must also append complete list of publications to the application on the Appendices tab.
- To search for publications in the VIRTA service, click on Find publication, enter the author’s name or ORCID identification, and click on Search. Please note that the publication search may take a few minutes. You can also search for publications using your ORCID identifierstored on the tab 'My account' by clicking on 'Search with your ORCID identifer'.

Launched in the spring of 2016, VIRTA is a data hub that complies bibliographic information of all scientific publications from 54 Finnish organizations.Since 2011, the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland has collected publication information on scientific publications annually from Finnish universities, university hospital districts, universities of applied sciences, and state research institutes.
